Ulrich Thöne was born in 1951. From 1982 through 1999 he taught economics, social and education sciences in various secondary and vocational schools in Berlin. During this time he was elected to the staff council in his Berlin school district and for all of Berlin. In 1999 he was elected President of the GEW regional branch Berlin, in April 2005 he was elected President of the GEW National Executive. In 2006 he became EI Board member and Vice President of the EI Pan-European Structure.
Ulrich Thöne has a long-standing commitment to international relations. His focus is communication and cooperation with neighbouring countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
