"Let's Go! Where to now?" Mobility Campaign Conference
Date: 2008-10-06 - 2008-10-07
Venue: 59650 Villeneuve d’Ascq, France, Charles de Gaulle University – Lille 3
Summary:
Academic mobility of students and staff is one of the core issues and cornerstones in building up the European Higher Education Area. But despite intensive intergovernmental cooperation and promises within in particular the Bologna Process, many students and staff continue to experience frustrating and costly obstacles to mobility causing them to lose educational and research opportunities.
As a follow-up of the seminar on mobility held in London in 2007, EI and ESU have continued to receive reports about economic barriers, non-recognition of academic merits gained abroad, and discrimination based on gender, age or cultural background hindering mobility. In order to improve the situation and increase work on reducing obstacles to mobility EI and ESU are running the "Let's Go!"- campaign, which started in November 2007 and which will end by a conference in Lille, France in October 2008. The first results of the “Let’s Go!” campaign will be presented and discussed during the conference and fed into a report to the Bologna Follow-up Group and ministerial conference in Leuven 2009. Conference participants will discuss themes such as financing mobility, mobility and quality, diversifying mobility, mobility of social security and pensions and commercialisation in connection with mobility.
