El Salvador Andes 21 De Junio

Andes 21 De Junio, in El Salvador, achieved equal pay for women and men in 1996 but pay differences between levels of teaching (eg, primary and secondary) remain because of qualifications and years of service requirements. This is an example of indirect discrimination because it appears fair that qualifications and length of service determine pay rates. But, women are not able to study and improve their qualifications because their responsibilities in the home do not allow time to study and they have breaks in their service for maternity leave.

Andes 21 De Junio is fighting to improve the regime for women teachers. The union is continuing to pressure the Government to improve the legislation that establishes the working conditions and salary scale of teachers.
