Finland

In Finland, the sectoral collective agreements agreed for 2001-2002 contained a number of equality provisions in respect of pay policies. A special equality allowance is allocated to each sector, based on the proportional quantity of women within the collective agreement of the sector concerned, multiplied by a coefficient of 0.6. After that the proportional quantity of employees earning less than FIM 59 (€1) per hour, or less than FIM 9,950 (€1,678) per month, is multiplied by a coefficient of 0.2. The results of the calculations are added together and the amount can then be used to settle an agreement. If no agreement is made then the amount is paid as a general increase based on a percentage. The aim is to redress imbalances between sectors that are low paid, and to address the low pay of women by taking account of their work tasks and education/training.
