    UNESCO and EI have signed a renewed memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Paris, France, on 22 November 2012. The document lays out the cooperation for the 2012-2020 period between the two organisations dedicated to achieving free quality public education.

    USA: Teachers and their unions rising to the challenge in hurricane aftermath

    Many teachers, their colleagues, and their communities, primarily in New York and New Jersey, were struck hard by Hurricane Sandy. Their homes were destroyed, and their schools and workplaces severely damaged. Many families still find themselves facing an emergency, lacking clean water, food, clothing and new power outages.

    Shashi Bala Singh: New Chief Regional Coordinator for Asia-Pacific

    EI is pleased to announce the appointment of Shashi Bala Singh as Chief Regional Coordinator for the Asia-Pacific Region. She will take up the post on 1st January next when the present incumbent, Aloysius Mathews, retires.

    Quebec teachers' union elects new president

    For the first time in its history, the Centrale des syndicats du Québec (CSQ), EI's largest member union in Quebec, elected a nurse, Ms Louise Chabot, as its President. Ms. Chabot succeeds Mr Réjean Parent, who led the organisation since 2003.
