World AIDS Day 2005
On World AIDS Day, EI is encouraging its affiliates to organise nationwide activities on the theme "Education for Life" and to impel entire communities to take part in World AIDS Day celebrations and initiatives.
To mark the event, the EI Secretariat and many EI affiliates around the world are already organising activities on HIV/AIDS prevention through education. In Brussels, an information session will be held to present the new Education For All (EFA) - HIV/AIDS Programme, which will be launched in Jan 2006. Many other affiliates will also organise activities to commemorate the occasion. Details of this will follow in the December edition of our electronic newsletter later this month. World AIDS Campaign (WAC) The World AIDS Campaign (WAC) is calling on individuals and groups to support the call to “Stop AIDS - Keep the promise” aimed at governments and policy makers. The action intends to hold leaders accountable for their promises and commitments to reverse the course of the HIV epidemic made four years ago in the UN Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS (http://www.un.org/ga/aids/coverage/FinalDeclarationHIVAIDS.html). As the current chair of the Global Unions, EI General Secretary Fred Van Leeuwen recently signed an agreement on behalf of the Global Union Federations backing this campaign and calling upon affiliates and their members to show their support by going to the website and making a promise for HIV/AIDS.
