Education International: New appointments to executive board
Following its 26th Meeting last week, the Executive Board of Education International has announced two new appointments.
Reg Weaver, president of the National Education Association and a member of the EI executive board since 2004, was elected vice president of the North America and Caribbean region while Edward J. McElroy, President, American Federation of Teachers was elected as a board member. Commenting on his implementation, Reg Weaver said “NEA has had some amazing victories, but public education in the United States is still under attack,” “So this office with Education International is going to be a two-way street for me: I’ll be helping other countries advocate for public education, but I’ll be looking for strategies that we can employ back home as well." Education International is a federation of 348 national unions representing education workers. It is one of 10 global union federations, and the only federation focused on educators and education support professionals.
