Mexico: No repression and more dialogue requested in Oaxaca
EI is very concerned with reported security forces repression of the social movement led by teachers in Oaxaca. EI is encouraging the Mexican authorities to dialogue, not to repress.
EI will ask President Fox of Mexico to bring about peaceful negotiations in Oaxaca in order to reach a settlement bringing about a quality public education system and respect of labour rights.
EI will also ask President Fox and the Governor of Oaxaca, Ulises Ruiz Ortiz, to open an independent and transparent investigation regarding the allegations of human rights violations and to prosecute those found guilty.
