International Master Programmes on Labour and Globalisation for Trade Unionists now open for Application

As part of the Global Labour University network, EI would like to inform its members that the next academic year of Global Labour University (GLU) is now open for applications. Two Master prgrammes on Labour and Globalisation for trade unionists are offered in 2008-2009 by the network, formed by the international labour movement, academic institutions, foundations and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

The duration of the programmes is one year.

  • The "Labour Policies and Globalisation" Programme starts in Sep 2007 and is offered by the University of Kassel and the Berlin School of Economics in Germany.
  • The "Labour and Development" Programme starts in Jan 2008 and is offered by the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa;

Students can study partly in Germany and partly in South Africa or go for onesemester as a visiting student to the Brazilian GLU partner, the Universidad Estadual de Campinas.

Interested trade unionists should apply now. The deadline for submission is 1 Apr 2007 for Germany and 1 Oct 2007 for South Africa. The courses are taught in English. More detailed information and the application form are available on the Internet: http://www.global-labour-university.org

The ILO Bureau for Workers’ Activities (ACTRAV) and its project partners will award a limited number of scholarships to applicants from developing and transition economies. Applicants need to have the endorsement of a trade union to apply for a scholarship. The grant is conditional on a contribution of 1500 euros from the supporting trade union or another donor.

Please note that women are strongly encouraged to participate and strict gender criteria will be applied in awarding places and scholarships.
