EI condemns shooting by gunman at Pecs University in Hungary
A student opened fire on classmates at Pecs University in southern Hungary, killing one student and wounding three persons, before turning himself in.
EI offers its condolences to the families and friends of the victim and condemns any such acts in educational institutions. Universities are institutions where students partake in critical thinking and higher learning, and are embedded in a culture of democracy, principles and values. Universities should serve as peaceful environments for students to foster their knowledge as well as their tolerance and openness towards others.
EI is saddened by this grave event, and urges the Hungarian government to take measures to prevent such an occurrence from ever being repeated.
