Notice for the 7th EI Africa Regional Conference
On behalf of the General Secretary, we wish to notify your organization of the pending EI Africa Regional Conference, scheduled from the 29th November to the 4th December 2010, in Brazzaville, the capital city of the Republic of Congo.
Thanks to the government of the Republic of Congo and our affiliate FETRASSEIC for consenting to host this conference.
Theme and sub-themes
The theme of the conference is ‘UNITY FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN QUALITY PUBLIC EDUCATION IN AFRICA.’
Sub-themes include the following:
• Consolidating Teachers Trade Union Unity • Investment in quality public education • Challenges in achieving quality public education in the context of economic and financial crisis • Trade Union rights in the education sector
There will be break out sessions during which these sub-themes will be discussed.
Conference Objectives
The objectives of the conference include accounting to EI members in the region through the activity and financial reports that will be presented to conference; to enable delegates elect members of the regional committee for another three year term, agree on recommendations and resolutions regarding the region to the executive board via the General Secretary and to discuss any other matters that would be of interest to the member organizations. A full program and official invitation will be sent in due course.
Amendment to by-lawsIn the meantime, we wish to call upon organizations wishing to propose amendments to the regional by-laws to do so now and in any case for such proposals to reach the Chief Regional Coordinator in Accra, Ghana not later than the 27th may 2010. You are reminded that only organizations that have paid their membership dues up to 2010 will be invited to participate in the proceedings of the conference. EI will not accommodate delegates wishing or hoping to pay their dues during the conference. In fact there will be no sponsorship for those failing to pay up for the past three years after the deadline of 30th June 2010.
Travel Arrangements
In order to facilitate easy entry into Brazzaville, delegates and observers who require visa but have no Congolese embassy in their countries are kindly requested to scan and email the first two or three pages of their passport to the regional office as soon as such delegates and observers have been designated by their organizations. Sponsored delegates will in the first instance, be required to organize their travel at home and send us the plan and cost of such tickets so that we can compare cost and the routing in order to ensure that they travel without hitches on the way.
At the appropriate time, all the necessary information relating to the conference will be sent to you via email including the invitation in the name of the delegates or observers, program, information on hotel costs in Brazzaville and other relevant documents.
