The latest issue of EI’s flagship magazine features a series of articles on World Teachers’ Day; the failure of recent G8 and G20 summits on education, and development from the E-9 Ministers’ Education Forum amongst others.

Every year, on 5 October, teachers from around the world come together to celebrate their day. EI encourages everyone to help celebrate and honour this day by reminding society about the crucial role of teachers and other education workers to social, cultural, economic and intellectual rebuilding.

The magazine features a special report highlighting the importance of the UN Millennium Development Goals’ (MDGs) Summit, to be held in New York from 20-22 September. With only five years left before the 2015 deadline to achieve the MDGs, it is necessary to accelerate progress towards them.

Other stories featured are: the video for union educators’ project ‘On the move for gender equality,’ a report on the International AIDS Conference in Vienna, and an account of civil and trade union rights’ violations within Honduras one year after the coup d’état that deposed President Zelaya.
