EI welcomes end of emergency prior to World Women's Conference
EI welcomes the Thai government's decision to lift the state of emergency in Bangkok and surrounding provinces. The good news comes one month before EI’s First World Women's Conference from 20-23 January, 2011.
EI has closely monitored developments in Bangkok, and reviewed the measures that the authorities imposed, such as curfews and bans on gatherings, as well as travel restrictions decided by foreign embassies. The evidence from the ground gave EI full confidence that the inaugural Women's Conference could proceed safely.
The Thai government's decision to lift the state of emergency is connected to the country situation becoming more peaceful and stable. This will further reassure those conference participants who had any concerns about security.
Participants wishing to register can still do so as the conference venue and hotel is able to accommodate additional people. Member organisations can still register participants through the conference website www.ei-ie.org/women2011
