Congress News and Information
Additional practical information is now available, concerning the participants of the 6th EI World Congress, which will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, in the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from July 22nd to July 26th, 2011.
Registration for Delegates
The date for registering delegates was 22nd April. However, late notifications will still be accepted until 15th May. After this date it will still be possible to change the name of participants already registered but it will not to be possible to add delegates to the system. Participants who have not booked accommodation already should also do so as soon as possible. The hotels which are adjacent to the Congress Centre are being booked out quickly.
Pre-Congress Events
Registration is also open for pre-Congress events. These include the EI/PSI Diversity Forum, the Higher Education Caucus, the Women’s Caucus, and the Indigenous Caucus. More information about these events is now available on the website. In order to ensure that there is sufficient capacity at each event for the number who wish to attend participants are asked to indicate on the registration section of the website the events which they wish to attend.
Break Out Sessions
Details of the Break-Out Sessions on the third day at Congress are now available on the congress website. Participants are invited to register for the two sessions of their choice, using their individual login and password. The first four sessions begin at 9.00 am and the second four sessions begin at 11.30 am. Participants should reserve a place at one of the first four sessions and one of the second four sessions. Each break-out session has a limited number of places. Register early to ensure that you get a place on the two sessions of your choice.
Special Events
On the afternoon of the third day of Congress (24th July) a number of special meetings and workshops will take place for those who wish to attend them. These include meetings on teachers and migration, Vocational Education and Training, Privatisation of Public Education, a meeting of the Commonwealth Teachers Group and of the Francophone Group. More information about these meetings and workshops is available on the website. Participants who wish to attend the meetings or workshops should indicate their choices on the registration section of the website.
Transportation from the airport
A bus service will be provided from the airport to the Congress Centre and hotels, in the immediate vicinity of the Centre, in Cape Town from 20th to 22nd July. Details of this and any costs for participants will be advertised in the coming weeks. The bus service will also be provided back to the airport on the evening of 26th and on 27th July. If you would like to arrange individual or group transportation for your delegation, you can do this via Winners on [email protected]. Payment for this service should be made directly to Winners. There will be no transportation arranged between hotels and the CTICC. Most of the recommended hotels are within easy walking distance of the conference venue. We will provide information about the local bus schedules.
Social Functions
Welcome Reception A welcome reception will be held in the ballroom of the CTICC (Conference Centre) at the end of the opening day of Congress. All participants are invited to attend.
A Taste of Cape Town On the evening of the second day at the end of the Congress sessions all participants will be invited to a special “Taste of Cape Town” evening which will be held in Rathanga Junction, a special venue in Cape Town. Participants will have an opportunity to experience some local entertainment and culture. Coaches will take participants to the venue after the final Congress session of the day. The Taste of Cape Town evening is sponsored by the EI European and North American member organisations.
Awards Dinner The Awards dinner will take place on Monday 25th July, the programme for the dinner is as follows:
- 18.30-19.30 - Reception
- 19.30-20.30 - Awards Ceremony
- 20.30-23.30 - Dinner and dancing
As space is limited, please order tickets for your delegation as soon as possible. If your delegation would like to sit together, please send us this information so that we can arrange the table plan. Tickets which have been ordered and paid for in advance will be available for collection from the Finance Office at Congress from the first day of registration onwards. If there are tickets still available they may also be purchased from the Finance Office. Lunches and Coffee breaks Lunch will be available for purchase by participants in the various restaurants and outlets in the CTICC. There will be a variety of hot and cold snacks available at prices. Lunch may also be obtained at many small restaurants and cafes which are within walking distance of the CTICC. Coffee and soft drinks and other refreshments will be available for purchase in the Exhibition Area and in the CTICC coffee shop. There will be water available for participants from coolers in the plenary room.
