Chile: Teachers from all over the country join "The Great Demonstration for Public Education"
This action allows the whole education community, educators as well as pupils and students, to express their support to the fundamental changes that are needed in the education system and the teaching profession in Chile.
The campaign, initiated by the Association of Chilean Teachers (Colegio de Profesores de Chile, CPC), affiliated to Education International, is taking place since the 4th until the 9th of August 2014.
The teachers' association has taken the necessary steps to ensure that the demonstration runs smoothly. It consists of a series of small demonstrations that will pass through key locations in the various regions, flying the flag of the teaching profession in support of public education.
The main idea behind the Great Demonstration for Public Education is the promotion of public education, seeking to highlight the importance of the work carried out by all those employed in the education sector. The press office of the CPC said, "governments and society have forgotten how essential and indispensable the work of our teachers is for the future of our country and our population."
