EI recommendations included in latest CEART report
Education International has succeeded in having some of its proposals to the Committee of Experts on the Application of the Recommendation concerning Teaching Personnel included in the latest report, which is now available online.
Issues taken on board
Every three years, EI makes a submission to the Committee of Experts on the Application of the Recommendation concerning Teaching Personnel, or CEART, on the status of teachers based on a special survey and other materials reflecting the experience of teachers and their trade unions. This year, EI’s recommendations were among others discussed by the CEART members at the 12th Session of the CEART, held in Paris, France, on 20-24 April.
At the session, the CEART also examined urgent issues affecting teaching personnel, including quality teaching in higher education, professionalisation of early childhood education personnel, changing employment relationships in teaching, the impact of digital technologies, and social dialogue. It also examined a number of allegations from teacher unions regarding the application of the Recommendations.
The CEART is a joint committee of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and UNESCO composed of 12 independent education experts from around the world. It meets every three years and is charged with monitoring the implementation of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation Concerning the Status of Teachers and the 1997 UNESCO Recommendation Concerning the Status of Higher-Education Teaching Personnel. Its report summarises the analysis of major issues affecting the status of teaching personnel worldwide at all levels of education.
