Valuable resources to fight gender-based violence released

published 5 December 2016 updated 15 December 2016

In the framework of the 16 Days of activism against gender-based violence campaign, UN Women has published a ‘Package of essentials for addressing violence against women’ aimed at advocates, programmers and policy makers.

The UN Women briefs included in this ‘Package of Essentials for Addressing Violence against Women: General essentials, essentials for prevention, essentials for services provision to survivors and key reference documents’ summarise the essential strategies for addressing violence against women in general, and for preventing violence and providing services to survivors in particular. The last brief includes a compilation of resources developed by UN Women and partners to end violence against women and girls.

The 16 Days of activism against gender-based violence campaign is an annual international campaign, which begins on 25 November – International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women – and ends on 10 December – International Human Rights Day. These symbolic dates were chosen to emphasise the fact that violence against women and girls is a violation of human rights.

For the second year running, the theme of the 16 Days campaign is: ‘From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Make Education Safe for All.’
