Tunisian and Arab teachers unions have lost an outstanding activist
Education International mourns the death of Taher Dhaker, former General Secretary of the General Union of Basic Education in Tunisia (SGEB), who passed away on Thursday July 13, 2017 after a short illness.
Apart from his engagement with the education union movement at the national level, Taher Dhaker was chairman of the EI-ACCRS standing committee for two consecutive terms (2012-2016). He will be remembered as a committed teacher unionist and educator for his work and perseverance within the Tunisian, Arab, and international teacher union movement.
His contributions to his union and to the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) in recent times have been described as “extensive and precious” by his colleagues and friends from the Arab region and Education International at large.
