Education International Executive Board meets in Brussels to look into the organisation's future
Education International’s upcoming Executive Board meeting will review the global trade union federation’s extensive programmes and prepare the organisation’s World Congress in 2019.
Taking place from 16-18 October in Brussels, Belgium, the 51st Education International (EI) Executive Board meeting will be the first one under the new leadership of David Edwards as General Secretary of the organisation.
The agenda includes a discussion on a review of EI’s structures, which was undertaken in a collective effort to strengthen the organisation for the future, as the organisation marks its 25thanniversary. This inclusive process, which consisted of a comprehensive survey of EI member organisations and intensive considerations within the Executive Board, is expected to lead to a proposal to amend some articles of the Constitution during the upcoming World Congress.
Resolutions
The Executive Board will also discuss the resolutions it will present to delegates during the 2019 World Congress. A special session will be devoted to the link between education and democracy in the current political and historical context; it is expected that a resolution on this will be prepared by the Executive Board and presented to Congress next year.
Finally, the meeting will facilitate a closer look at EI’s programmes and budgets to prepare for rounding off the current work programme in time for the next Congress.
