The new leadership of Education International ready to lead

published 3 August 2024 updated 3 August 2024

After a week of intense debate and exchange among the 1,200 participants of the 10th World Congress of Education International, the new Executive Board held its first session in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The new EI President, Mugwena Maluleke from SADTU (South Africa), welcomed the new members of the Board and led the space in which the various thematic committees on statutes, finance, and gender were established.

This is the first Council elected after a resolution was approved at the previous Congress for parity in the open seats (article 10.c.iv of the EI Constitution), which coincides with this being the Board with the most female members.

"I have a lot of confidence in the work we will do together, in the campaigns we will promote, and I know we will learn a lot from each other. Our mandate is clear," said the President.

Also, EI General Secretary David Edwards thanked them for the smooth running of the Congress and offered them support for the transition to their new roles.
