The power of migrant workers is in the union!

published 18 December 2024 updated 18 December 2024

In a joint statement on International Migrants' Day 2024, the Global Labour Movement denounces worrying trends putting migrant workers and their families at risk and calls for a human rights-based, gender-transformative, and people-centered approach to labor migration governance.

The statement emphasizes the need to address several critical areas, including:

  • The exploitation of migrant workers, including forced labor and unsafe working conditions.
  • The lack of access to basic services and rights for migrants.
  • The need for regular, safe, and rights-based migration pathways.
  • The importance of ratifying and implementing international labor standards for all migrants, regardless of their status.

The Global Labour Movement urges states to take concrete actions to protect the rights of migrant workers and ensure fair and ethical labor migration.
