    Following the dissolution of the World Confederation of Labour (WCL) and the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) on 31 October, a new trade union international, the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) will be born on 1 November in Vienna, Austria!

    8 Newly-constructed schools in tsunami-hit areas and still more to come

    By the end of September this year, teachers and children in the tsunami-hit areas of Indonesia in the Aceh province have access to 8 brand new fully-furnished and well-equipped elementary schools built under the EI-Novib Tsunami Rehabilitation Programme. And there will be 20 more to come.

    Indonesian earthquake: EI investigates damages to education

    EI is currently looking into the possible damages to education in the areas affected by the 6.3 richter scale earthquake that hit the island of Java in Indonesia on 27 May. The main areas affected were Klaten, Bantul and the ancient city of Yogyakarta.

    EI and Action Aid International reaffirm relations and co-operation

    From 6-8 March, 40 representatives from both Education International (EI) and Action Aid International (AAI) met in Johannesburg, South Africa in a meeting to discuss mutual co-operation on various issues and reaffirm their strong relations. The meeting was opened by EI President Thulas Nxesi.

    Relief for victims of the South Asia Earthquake of 2005

    The South Asia Earthquake struck the Pakistan-administered and parts of the India-administered region of Kashmir on 8 October 2005. It registered a magnitude of 7.6 and caused widespread devastation. Almost 90,000 people died and more than 4 million were directly affected.
