Register for the 50th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women today!
As a consultative partner of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), EI will be participating in the 50th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (UN CSW), which will be held in New York, USA, from 27 February to 10 March 2006.
The 50th UN CSW will be focusing on two thematic issues, namely: 1. Enhanced participation of women in development: an enabling environment for achieving gender equality and the advancement of women, taking into account, inter alia, the fields of education, health and work; 2. Equal participation of women and men in decision-making processes at all levels. These two issues are of critical importance to teacher trade unionists, as they concern areas such as the negative impacts of the GATS and privatisation in the education sector, decent work for women and pay equity, as well as gender parity in decision-making. Therefore, our input in terms of preparation, trade union statements, actions to be taken will be crucial in lobbying for women-friendly resolutions on this year's CSW themes. EI invites member organisations to send delegates to participate in this year's CSW. The names, email addresses, and other contact details of your organisation should be sent to the following colleagues by email or by fax: Marta Scarpato ([email protected]) Christina Drews ([email protected]) Fax: +32 2 224 0606 Please also state if your organisation would be able to sponsor a woman colleague from an EI affiliate in a low-income country. Please note that EI will NOT pay for the travel and accomodation costs of your participation. Your application notice should reach us before 22 Dec 2005.
