Spain: EI General Secretary meets with Education Secretary General
Together with the General Secretary of Spanish affiliate the "Federación de Enseñanza de CC.OO" (FE.CC.OO), EI General Secretary Fred van Leeuwen met with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, Alejandro Tiana, on 31 Jan.
The EI General Secretary expressed concern about the Education Law that is currently being discussed in the Senate and how it is going to affect the working conditions of education workers in Spain. Other issues discussed include the education of migrant children and of ethnic minorities. Fred van Leeuwen also commended the exemplary performance of teacher unions in the country. As the global body that represents education workers around the world, EI facilitates development cooperation among affiliates in different countries and regions. Within this framework, the FE.CC.OO is cooperating with teacher unions in the Latin America region on various issues.
